Role Summary:

This role is a key to design, develop and maintain GTT Storage platforms, both in management hosting and cloud ecosystems, more focused in ensuring of optimal levels of platform performance, capacity, security maintaining as well high levels of cost efficiency.

Senior engineer is responsible to fulfil business requirements in regard to technology strategy and support of operations needs.

Support on troubleshooting for complex incidents and problem management on the platform may be required as last level of support.

Job Scope/Supervision:

The role requires a broad understanding of complex hosting solutions, including DC infrastructure, OS, applications and cloud tendencies and requires as well a high level of process understanding in order to continuously look for optimization of the processes and systems supporting storage platforms, like monitoring, reporting and automation.

Good communication skills are required as well to ensure a good engagement with other areas of the business and vendors and to document clearly the platform and train engineering and operation teams when required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Define strategy to implement and maintain Storage environments, deploying platform across DCs and manage all aspects of its life cycle
• Implement complex non-standard storage environments for customers
• Create and maintain platform documentation to comply with GTT ITIL approach and support several certifications GTT has like ISO 27001, ISO 2000, PCI DSS and BSI.
• Guarantee proper level of knowledge across operations and engineering teams
• Manage vendor relationship for Storage platforms
• Perform technical audits as required to verify customer and platform standards requirements are met and maintained
• Perform on-going performance tuning and resource optimization as required;
• Produce and maintain capacity and performance reports for large storage environments on a monthly basis
• Applies ITIL methodology to the role and follows best practice standards and processes
• Adheres to GTT security policies and report incidents to the appropriate operations functions
• Assists in the Continual Process Improvement (CPI) program as needed
• Work on assigned tasks and projects as directed by management

Required Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• Proven experience as a Storage Engineer or similar role with minimum 5 years of experience deploying, configuring and managing storage systems
• Experience with cloud storage solutions and integrating storage systems with cloud services
• Excellent knowledge of storage technologies:
  • NetApp FAS and AFF is a must
  • EMC and 3PAR is a plus
• Experience with S3 Object Storage is a distinctive advantage
• Experience with Disaster Recovery solutions and Metro clusters is a distinctive advantage
• Awareness of Hosting Solution components (Storage, Switches, Firewalls, Server Hardware etc.)
• Good knowledge of large complex Hosting solutions
• Relevant certifications e.g. NCIE is highly desirable
• AWS certification or past experience is highly desirable

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

• Very good virtualization knowledge (KVM, VMware, HyperV) is desired
• In addition any combination of at least 2 of the following skills:
  • Backup technologies (Veritas NetBackup)
  • Cloud Orchestration software (Apache CloudStack, Open Stack, vCloud director, etc.)
  • Hosting hardware, servers and blades (HP and Dell)
  • Windows (various flavors)
  • Linux (Redhat, SuSe, CentOS)
  • IP Networking
• General knowledge of telecom and Hosting industry and standards
• Experienced with ITIL framework, ITIL certification is a plus
• Understand about AGILE or similar process methods
